Inspiring the Next Generation: A Visit to a Local Birmingham School

Recently, I had the privilege of visiting a local Birmingham school during National Careers Week and International Women’s Day. The day was dedicated to inspiring the next generation of Executive Business Support professionals, and it was an experience that left a lasting impact on me.

Why do you feel so passionately about creating awareness of Business Support as a Profession and as a Career?

Business support is the backbone of any successful organisation. It ensures that operations run smoothly and efficiently, allowing businesses to thrive. I am passionate about creating awareness of business support as a profession because it is often overlooked, yet it plays a crucial role in the success of any business. By highlighting its importance, we can attract talented individuals to this field and ensure that businesses continue to operate at their best.

Do you personally get involved in outreach projects within your role or was this your first experience?

I have always been involved in outreach projects within my role, but this visit was particularly special. It was my first experience working directly with school children, and it was incredibly rewarding to see their enthusiasm and creativity. Engaging with the community and inspiring young minds is something I believe in strongly, and I look forward to more opportunities like this.

Was the business supportive of your involvement and what would you take back and share about your experience?

The business was incredibly supportive of my involvement. They understand the importance of community engagement and the impact it can have on both the business and the individuals involved. I would share the excitement and curiosity of the students, their eagerness to learn, and the importance of fostering such experiences to inspire future generations.

What did you personally take away from the experience and do you feel there is more to be done?

Personally, I took away a renewed sense of purpose and motivation. Seeing the potential in these young students reminded me of why I am passionate about my profession. There is definitely more to be done in terms of outreach and education. We need to continue to create opportunities for young people to learn about and engage with the business support profession.

Would you recommend your fellow business support colleagues get involved?

Absolutely! I would highly recommend my fellow business support colleagues get involved in outreach projects. It is a rewarding experience that not only benefits the community but also provides personal growth and fulfilment. By sharing our knowledge and experiences, we can inspire the next generation and ensure the continued success of our profession.
