We are delighted to announce that we have selected the Birmingham based charity, Help Harry Help Others, as one of our nominated charities of the year. Here at The PA Forum we always look to support good causes and celebrate the work that they do do in their respective fields and the cancer support charity has been working with people affected by cancer for 14 years. With the statistic of 1 in 2 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime, the work of Help Harry Help Others is something that many of us could need or have had experience of.
Started by Harry Moseley when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, Harry is best known for making and selling his famous bracelets to raise money to help support other people in similar situations. Whilst battling his inoperable brain tumour, Harry was inspired to make a difference to all people with brain cancer when a friend of his who also had a brain tumour became very ill. Within the space of just over two years Harry had organised and attended nearly 100 events to raise money for and awareness of brain cancer. He touched the hearts of the nation with his efforts and helped change the lives of everyone he met.
The charity offers grants through their HelpCOPE fund to those who are suffering financial hardship and also run a Drop in Cancer Support Centre
via our HelpCARE fund. The centre offers over 17 free services on site and supports adults and children with support they may need outside of treatment. Help Harry Help Others is unique in its efforts to not only help find a cure for brain cancer via our HelpCURE fund, but also in helping adults and children who are affected by any type of cancer.
Crucially, the charity receives no funding from the Government, council or the NHS but is heavily leant on by the NHS for the services it provides. All of the funding required to keep the services and the cancer running comes from external donations from businesses, supporters, volunteers and grants that have to be applied for. Harry’s mom and founder of HHHO, Georgie Moseley, has continued the work that Harry started and works tirelessly to ensure that Harry’s legacy continues and, most importantly, the people who need support in their darkest times, manage to get it.
Speaking about the link and support that HHHO will have from the PA Forum, Georgie said: “We are delighted to have the support of The PA Forum because it means that we can continue and communicate Harry’s work to a whole new audience. As a small charity, we need as many people as possible to be aware of the services we provide and how we help people. We are here for anyone affected by cancer whether it’s them personally or their family members who need the emotional support in that situation. Harry wanted to help people whist he battled the brain tumour and that principle is the cornerstone of what we do today, 14 years on.”
